Sumario:The first part of this book provides an English-language survey of the Continental literature about how versions of Justinian's Novels (Novellae Constitutiones) were created and transmitted over nearly two thousand years. It further describes how some important nineteenth century scholarship about the Novels not widely available in print is now freely accessible online. The second part of the book offers the first, and only English translation of Wilhelm Kroll's Latin preface to the definitive 1912 edition of the Novels in which he discusses: the manuscripts he and Rudolf Schoell used, the criteria used for accepting some readings and rejecting others, as well as describing previous editions and their flaws -- Editor
