Sumario: | The fifth generation of wireless networks and technologies presents significant opportunity to transform connectivity. Improvements in bandwidth, latency, coverage, reliability, and security can enable an array of enhanced and new applications. On June 11-12, 2019, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened experts to speak about the state of research, development, and deployment of 5G technologies; the challenges of securing 5G networked devices and infrastructure; and the global landscape of competition on 5G deployment. Priorities for cross sector collaboration and coordination between government, universities, and industry to advance the nation's leadership in wireless communication were also discussed. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.
