Sumario: | Sofia is the victim of domestic violence perpetrated by her husband. She mentions that she always tries to protect her children and keep them safe. As a mandated reporter, the provider must inquire further to ensure that no harm is being inflicted on the children. Sofia denies that her husband has ever intentionally physically harmed the children, but that he has “indirectly” harmed them during bouts of intoxicated rage when he throws items. She also reports that her children are fearful of being left alone with their father and that they feel unsafe. The provider informs Sofia that she is mandated to report this information, and Sofia repeatedly pleads with the provider to not report the abuse because her and her family are undocumented. The provider validates Sofia’s worries and gently reiterates her role as a mandated reporter and invites Sofia to be present on the phone to assist in making the report. Sofia agrees to do so. |
