Sumario:This volume includes all the papers that were presented at the Annual Conference of the European Association of Cognitive Ergonomics, EACE 2005, which has incorporated the 10th Conference on Cognitive Science Aspects of Process Control and the 13th European Conference on Cognitive Ergonomics.During 25 years of research and practice, Cognitive Ergonomics has matured and broadened its domains of study and intervention, to include not only process control domains, but also educational, medical, administrative, engineering design, leisure and other domains. These new worlds of study are typically less tightly coupled than the traditional ones; as a consequence new theoretical and methodological questions emerge:- are the traditional approaches appropriate for intervening in these new worlds?- which theories are best adapted for a sufficient understanding of these new worlds?- how to frame the world studied, i.e. what boundaries to consider in order to effectively identify what counts for the human agents behaviour?- which should be the unit of analysis?- how to achieve design recommendations which fit to the local work ecology of the studied world and/or change it towards desired directions?- when should one stop the analysis and start the design? The papers presented at the EACE 2005 Conference and included in this volume, either tackle these questions directly, discussing theoretical and methodological issues per-se, or present research results and case studies, giving the reader the opportunity to reflect over the merits and flaws of specific theoretical frameworks and methods, when they are applied in specific worlds. The papers are grouped in three sections and follow their order of presentation at the conference. The first section includes theoretical / methodological papers as well as research and design studies dealing with a broad spectrum of work domains. In the second section are grouped the papers which present research and applications in the medical domain. Finally, the third section includes the papers presented and discussed within the Doctoral Forum of the Conference.
