| Sumario: | The conference reported to you in this volume has surely become a landmark in the history of ACM. It is not too much to hope that ACM 70 will also achieve an important position in the early history of the computer revolution.As a biased observer, I conclude that ACM 70 met most of the very ambitious objectives that we set for the technical portion of the conference. First and foremost, a dialogue was started between the computing community and the sectors of the economy most heavily affected by computers; the theme of ACM 71 in Chicago is "Decade for Dialogue", for example. Another objective was to define the major computer requirements of the 1970's. It is notable that virtually every Sector spelled out its needs, often in brutally clear language. One key objective is met by the publication of this report; it provides the meat, the marrow, and the essence of what was said - the fat and the fatuous have been discarded.A major discovery from ACM 70 is that innovation in the conduct of technical conferences is not only possible, it is badly needed. This one conference has stimulated many of us to work harder on specific projects that will improve communications about computing with the leadership of many sectors of government, industry, and education. This conference has also stimulated many of us to test out other new ideas for conducting meetings on computers and information processing technology.
