Sumario: | Research shows that we spend more than 85% of our time indoors - 30% at indoor venues other than homes, often in unfamiliar places. Despite this, nearly all existing location-based services (LBS) focus on outdoor spaces. However, in the past few years, indoor LBS are also getting increasing attention. A whole new industry is beginning to create indoor maps. Google is a natural pioneer in this, but it is also crowdsourcing maps from proprietors. Micello has mapped more than 15, 000 indoor venues and is expanding; and OpenStreetMap has also started creating publicly available indoor maps. It is estimated that more than 200, 000 indoor venues across the US will use indoor LBS by 2016. Indoor positioning technology is also continuously improving. |
