Sumario:This is a 'good to think' work as, in our societies, science, sex and politics are related. The author's excellent research goes through the tight plot that made syphilis one of the most fearsome human diseases. It shows that, for almost a hundred years, the struggle against it articulated complex social processes, involving simultaneously the healing of the sick, the construction of the nation, the salvation of the race, the social dissemination of state controls, the rise of certain professional groups and, mainly, the reform of traditional values ​​related to sexual morality. It is necessary to emphasize the beautiful insert of illustrations contained in the book.
