Sumario:The concepts and applications of ergonomics are constantly discussed in the academic field, featuring a corpus of knowledge of great expressiveness for ergonomic science itself and other related technological areas, namely: engineering, design, architecture, and others. Among the demands to expand the analysis around this discipline is its historical evolution, which is full of controversies and discussions. In fact, there is still a great difficulty in reporting its historical stages within the geographical scope and the participation of its precursors in these phases. Thus, the purpose of this collection was to bring together the studies carried out by students in the ergonomics research line, associated with the Laboratory of Ergonomics and Interfaces - LEI, in the Postgraduate Program in Design - PPGDesign, of the Faculty of Architecture, Arts and Communication from Universidade Estadual Paulista, and present subsidies to expand the discussion and evolutionary reflection of ergonomics. The first chapters describe the precursors of ergonomics, with emphasis on Leonardo da Vinci and his studies in the field of anatomy; Bélidor, Patissier and their contributions to the organization of work; Taylorism and aspects of the scientific organization of work, as well as Jules Amar's contribution in this context. The remaining chapters address the origin and evolution of ergonomics in Europe, Russia (formerly the USSR), the United States of America, Latin America and Brazil, with an emphasis on the creation of laboratories and non-governmental associations. In general, the studies presented here fill gaps that still exist within ergonomics and seek to establish a link for the future continuity of research in the area.
