Kropotkine (1842-1921) a lutté à la fin du xixe siècle contre le social-darwinisme, cette utilisation du modèle darwinien de la sélection naturelle ayant pour but de justifier l’inégalité sociale. Son originalité réside dans le fait qu’il a combattu ce discours idéologique sur son propre terrain, celui d’une continuité entre nature et société. En revenant vers Darwin pour souligner la fonction évolutionnaire de l’entraide tout en lui ajoutant les principaux concepts lamarckiens, Kropotkine a bâti un naturalisme critique, capable d’expliquer avec cohérence le passage de la nature à l’histoire, et encore pertinent pour lutter contre les justifications idéologiques du marché et de l’État recourant à une vision pessimiste de la nature humaine. We intend to show in this book how, at the end of the nineteenth century, the russian scientist and anarchist P. Kropotkin (1842-1921) waged a fight against social-darwinism, which used darwinian’s natural selection model in order to justify social inequality. His originality lies in the fact that he tried to bring this ideological discourse down on its home ground : the continuity between nature and society. Coming back to Darwin in order to emphasize the evolutionary role of mutual aid, while adding to this study the main Lamarckian concepts, Kropotkin raised a critical naturalism. It is likely to explain coherently the link between nature and history, as well as it is still effective in order to criticize the ideological justifications of market and state, related to a pessimistic vision of human nature. |
