Descripción
Sumario:This book examines how social inequality and the racialization of poverty are legitimized through hegemonic media in Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia. It compiles articles presenting findings from the POLAME project, which investigated linguistic expressions used in the press of these countries, focusing on concepts, vocabulary, and ideas about poverty. The project posits that the press, as an opinion shaper, perpetuates beliefs and ideologies about poverty. It reveals that hegemonic media often obscure the power relations that produce poverty, rarely offering critical perspectives. The book is aimed at scholars and students in social sciences, particularly those interested in media studies and social inequality.
