| Sumario: | Resum en italià : Si è diffusa l'idea che la Divina Commedia cominci con un uomo perduto in una selva; in realtà, quell'uomo è stato trovato e solo per questo la storia del suo viaggio comincia. Un punto di vista paradossale è un'arma sorprendente nella vita e nella letteratura, ed è ciò che accomuna due scrittori cronologicamente lontani come il medievale Dante e il moderno Chesterton: uno andò all'altro mondo da vivo, l'altro disse che era una cosa dell'altro mondo essere vivo su questa terra. Entrambi misero sotto-sopra cielo e terra, pur di consegnarci uno sguardo di meraviglia sulla realtà. Stare in loro compagnia, passeggiando tra cronaca e letteratura, comporta il salutare rischio di vivere una giornata storta, in cui l'alba parla di fatica e stanchezza, il pomeriggio accende avventure eroiche e il tramonto porta una gioia inaspettata. "Nel mezzo del cammin" di propria vita, ciascuno trova occasioni, incidenti e relazioni imprevedibili: un bambino alle prese con un castello di sabbia è il migliore alleato dei grandi re dell'epica antica, un uomo provato dalla tragedia del terremoto può parlare come Ulisse, il lavoratore e la casalinga non devono stupirsi d'incrociare Hemingway e T. S. Eliot al bar o sull'uscio di casa.
