Sumario:St. Basil often asked the question of where the true greatness of man lay. It is not wealth, glory, dominion, the beauty of the body, power, or, the strength that really make us great. Those who idolize these things, which are good in themselves, end up by becoming debased by sin. The true greatness lies in recognizing one’s Creator. What has to be avoided is false self-esteem, based on presumption and pride, an affirmation of self that ends up bringing division into the Church and into society. Instead, true self-esteem is humble, leans on God and is full of fruitful works.
