Summary:On January 27, 2021, the Roundtable on Health Literacy of the Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine held a virtual public workshop titled The Role of Critical Health Literacy in Addressing the Social Determinants of Health. This Proceedings of a Workshop--in Brief presents summaries of each of the workshop's three presentations. The presentations examined the concept of critical health literacy, what critical health literacy can look like in action, and how it may be used in research and evaluation. The final section of the proceedings provides a summary of the panel discussion, during which the panelists together explored facilitators, barriers, and future directions for the implementation of critical health literacy interventions.
