''U.S. News & World Report''s the 2023–2024 Best Colleges ranked UB 76 on their list of "Best National Universities", and 36th among public universities. ''U.S. News'' ranking of best online programs ranks UB eighth in "Best Online Bachelor's Programs" and 25th in "Best Online Graduate Education Programs".

In the ''Wall Street Journal''/''Times Higher Education'' 2021 ranking of top colleges and universities, the University at Buffalo was ranked as the 31st best public university and the 121st best college in the nation. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ranks UB first on their "Green Power List" of top colleges and universities.
