(born 24 December 1956) is a Bangladeshi British lawyer and human rights activist. She is serving as the
United Nations Special Rapporteur
for freedom of expression and opinion. She previously served as the seventh
Secretary General

Amnesty International
(from 2001 to 2009). In 2011, she was elected Director-General of the
International Development Law Organization
(IDLO) in Rome, an
intergovernmental organization
that works to promote the
